Diagnostic Tools

A variety of diagnostic techniques may be used to assess your health.  Diagnostic techniques that may be used to form part of the consultation are:

Observations

Hair, skin, tongue, nails, face – all of these areas can help identify regions of the body which are under- or over-functioning. This enables a more holistic approach to your wellness program.

In Clinic Assessment

There are a range of tests that may be used during the consultation process, some are the same ones you would see your doctor using. We may take your blood pressure, your pulse rate, or listen to your heart, lungs, or bowels. We could also take your temperature, or look in your ears, nose or throat.

Iridology

Iridology is the study of the iris of the eye, including its texture and colour. It is a gentle noninvasive way of identifying inherited strengths and deficiencies in the body. Through iris analysis, areas of the body that lack the vitality to resist illness can be determined and supported through good nutrition and other naturopathic methods. Iridology shows genetic predispositions, this is especially valuable when working with children. Iridology can be used as an important tool to discern potential structural and functional imbalances within the body.

Functional Testing

There are a variety of tests which can be done in clinic, or sent to laboratories in New Zealand, Australia, or the United States for evaluation.

Hair Tissue Mineral Analysis

HTMA is an analytical test that measures the mineral composition of hair. The comprehensive report provides reliable clinical data on over 35 nutrient and toxic minerals and over 26 significant mineral ratios. This information is often not revealed in standard blood and urine testing. HTMA is a non-intrusive health screening tool, which can highlight potential health problems and help you to treat them.

Diagnostic Medlab

Diagnostic Medlab is a medical testing laboratory testing specimens from patients referred by general practitioners, specialists, naturopaths and others. Any laboratory test that your doctor would send you for, we can also arrange.

Blood allergy testing

ELISA Testing has the ability to measure, from small blood samples, our immune response to over 100 foods. The actual levels of IgE and IgG antibodies against these individual allergens can be precisely measured. The blood samples are sent to a laboratory in the United States for analysis. Results take approximately 3-4 weeks, and include a rotation diet plan. This helps to reduce the likelihood of developing further sensitivities in the future.

Comprehensive Stool Analysis

This is a non-invasive diagnostic assessment that can be used to assess digestive and absorptive functions, as well as the presence of opportunistic pathogens. It will measure the status of beneficial and pathogenic bacteria, yeast, fungi and parasites. Precise identification of pathogenic species and susceptibility testing greatly facilitates selection of the most appropriate treatment plan. The stool samples are sent to a laboratory in the United States for analysis. Results take approximately 3-4 weeks.

Women's Hormonal Health Assessment

This test provides a focused overview of hormonal balance in both pre- and post-menopausal women, using a single serum sample to evaluate dynamics of sex steroid metabolism that can profoundly affect a woman's health throughout her lifetime.

The Estrogen Metabolism Assessment (serum or urine)

Blood or urine can be used to evaluate how estrogen is being processed in the body. The test yields clinical insight into many estrogen-dependent conditions and provides an important tool for monitoring dietary, lifestyle and hormone therapies.

Comprehensive Thyroid Assessment

Thyroid hormone metabolism is thoroughly analyzed, including central thyroid gland regulation and activity, thyroid production and secretion, peripheral thyroid conversion, and thyroid autoimmunity. This test allows me to pinpoint common imbalances that underlie a broad spectrum of chronic illness.

Bone Resorption Assessment

This test provides an accurate assessment of the rate of bone turnover in an individual, allowing me to identify those more likely to develop osteoporosis, to intervene before significant loss has occurred, and to monitor the efficacy of treatment regimens.

Adrenocortex Stress Profile

The salivary assay evaluates bioactive levels of the body’s important stress hormones, cortisol and DHEA. This profile serves as a critical tool for uncovering biochemical imbalances underlying anxiety, depression, chronic fatigue, obesity, dysglycemia, and a host of other clinical conditions.

Female Hormone Profile

11 saliva samples are taken, over a 28-day period, and analyzed for the levels of ß-estradiol, progesterone, and testosterone. Imbalances revealed in this profile can provide clues, and help illuminate root causes of disorders such as menstrual irregularities, premenstrual syndrome (PMS), infertility, endometriosis, breast cancer, and osteoporosis. A comprehensive profile can also be taken, which includes the Female Hormone Profile, Adrenocortex Stress Profile and the Comprehensive Melatonin Profile to reveal how the sex hormones are influenced by cortisol, DHEA, and melatonin.

Menopause Profile

Three saliva samples are taken over a 5-day period. These are examined to determine levels of beta-estradiol, estrone, estriol, progesterone, and testosterone. Results can be used to identify imbalances contributing to menopause symptoms and various systemic disorders. A comprehensive profile can also be taken, which includes the Menopause Profile, Adrenocortex Stress Profile and the Comprehensive Melatonin Profile to reveal how the sex hormones are influenced by cortisol, DHEA, and melatonin.

Male Hormone Profile

Four saliva samples are taken over a 24-hour period. These are analyzed for levels of testosterone. Elevated levels suggest androgen resistance, while decreased levels may result from such causes as hypogonadism, hepatic cirrhosis, lipid abnormalities, and aging. A comprehensive profile can also be taken, which includes the Male Hormone Profile, Adrenocortex Stress Profile and the Comprehensive Melatonin Profile to reveal how testosterone is influenced by cortisol, DHEA, and melatonin.

Comprehensive Melatonin Profile

Three saliva samples are taken and analyzed for the secretion pattern of this important hormone. Melatonin imbalance has been associated with Seasonal Affective Disorder, infertility, sleep disorders, and compromised immune function. This profile can reveal abnormal levels of melatonin that relate to various physical and psychological symptoms as well as premature acceleration of the body’s aging process.
